Holly Vale Workshops

Join us for an art workshop in our woodland garden, part of the rolling hills south east of Manchester and bordering the beautiful Peak District.

Mill Brow is a beautiful hamlet in a conservation area near picturesque Marple Bridge.

The workshops are held in a semi-covered stone ruin, part of a former textile mill.

Here nature flourishes and has reclaimed the industrial past. There is plenty of room to wander and gain inspiration in the garden, with a heater in the covered area for those cooler days.

Join us in relaxed surroundings, listen to the babbling brook & nurture your creativity.

ETHOS

We try to be mindful of protecting the environment and use as many eco-friendly products as possible - FSC paper, soil association approved printing inks, water based paints and recycled items.

WORKSHOPS

The aim is to provide a friendly and supportive experience for everyone, from beginners to professionals, where you will learn a new skill or continue your artistic journey. We have small classes with a maximum of 5 people so there’s lots of one-to-one tuition.

Your tutor is Mair who has a BA in Multi-Disciplinary Design and many years of experience drawing, painting and printing. Her surroundings inspire her creativity. Teaching in the workshops is a way of sharing her enthusiasm for both art and nature.

UPCOMING EVENTS

We’re taking a workshop break - see you in Spring 2025!

Drawing classes - £25. Watercolour & printing classes - £35. Prices include all materials and refreshments.

Intaglio printmaking - etching & cutting into a surface. When ink is applied it’s held in the incisions. Numerous prints can be made from one design. Monotype printmaking - ‘one of a kind’ single art piece.

(For more photos - please click on Instagram and Facebook links at end of page)

The workshops start with lots of experimenting, using different mark making techniques unique to each process. The object is to have fun exploring their potential and all those great accidental art surprises!

These experiments will then be put into practice to create one or more art pieces using the natural surrounding as inspiration. Visitors will be encouraged to enjoy the materials and not be too concerned about a ‘finished’ art work - to hopefully leave with new ideas and confidence to explore further artistic adventures.

As they are small classes there’s lots of one to one tutorship and handy tips.

The printing can be easily continued at home without the need for an expensive printing press. We use easily obtainable recycled materials like Tetra Pak and plastic, and can recommend eco friendly inks & paint.

Why not return for another workshop exploring the same method within a peer group setting, or try a different style of workshop. Our aim is to champion and support others on their creative journey, whether as a beginner or professional.

Meet a new art community and return to learn from each other in a beautiful setting.

We are also very happy to arrange private events for up to 5 people.
